A young immigrant arriving in New York City with only a few dollars in his pocket but a heart full of big dreams, Lewis Mittman found his way to America in 1935. Hired as a furniture maker by his loving uncle, Lewis soon discovered his passion for the art of creating fine furniture.
But when World War II broke out a few years later, life changed for everyone. Lewis decided to serve and fight for his new country. Upon returning home after the war, he yearned for the work he truly loved, and in 1953 he founded Lewis Mittman, a residential manufacturing company. Despite humble beginnings, the company has become one of the most sought-after brands in furniture design today.

In true family tradition, Steve Mittman followed in his father’s footsteps in 1970 and took the reins of the company in 1992.
Unlike many competitors, we have remained a staunch advocate for product integrity in China. Although a principal of the company, Steve Mittman monitors the factory floor overseas alongside his team, and evaluates work done by technicians and engineers. This dedication strengthens our ability to deliver exquisite craftsmanship at competitive prices, whether a product be a part of a mid-range or luxury project.
